This record group consists of various records of the Kalamazoo County Clerk for the years 1833-1942. The first set of records are records of deeds (1834-36) and includes plats of Arthursburg, Ionia County (1835); Ionia (1838); Ottawa (1835); Middleton, Clinton County; Charleston, Ottawa County, Saranac, Ionia County; and Kent, Kent County. The second group of records is the testimony heard in U.S. District Court for the Western Division, on bankruptcy of Michigan Buggy Company (1913). The third set are records relating to the Historical Record Survey, Division of Women's and Professional Projects, Work Projects Administration (1936-42). These are mainly work papers, notes and drafts of historical sketches and description of records located within the county. Includes: statements of program and accomplishment; Historical recorder (vol. 1, no. 1, Sept. 1936); Historical inquirer (vol. 1, no. 3, Aug. 14, 1936); copies of memoranda; and letters in and out relating to the survey goals and procedure. The last set of records are bonds and land patents (1833-68). The bonds were issued to pay for the county jail.
